Writers Rising Up - We Grow Readers & Writers!

The goal at Writers Rising Up to Defend Place, Natural Habitat, Wetlands is to give writers who submit to our writing opportunities a chance to cultivate their craft by competing in different genres. Writers who are selected for non-cash prizes receive a place where their writing will be acknowledged, and honored. For those who submit to submissions with prize money only writers whose work is selected by the judges will be compensated.

Writers Rising Up is concerned with the world around us, so our focus is on nature writing related to place, natural habitat and wetlands.  Three Minnesota writers who capture the essence of place and nature are Paul Gruchow, Carol Bly and Bill Holm, all of whom participated in Writers Rising Up’s workshops, readings and events.  We have dedicated three of our submission opportunities to these extraordinary Minnesota writers, who have not only left us their legacy of style, but the enduring memories of their recollections and characterizations of small towns, wildernesses and Minnesota seasons.

Our Submissions: Prairie Prize: Prairie Sampler;  Digging to the Roots Calendar;  bug city: make a bug, poetry contest lets poets build a poem out of a slithery, slimy collection of words and critter images and Writers & Readers Common Grounds submissions, which can be essays or poems...please read the guidelines at our events and contests link and at our Submittable link.
